Choose this Kuala Lumpur Accommodation for Luxury on a Budget
03/10/2018
When we travel, we always check hotels vs Airbnb for accommodation, especially in cities. Sometimes hotels end up being the best options, but when searching for Kuala Lumpur accommodation, I came across a gem on Airbnb.
If you’ve never used Airbnb before, you can my post on Everything you need to know about Airbnb!Â
The Regalia Suites has multiple listings on Airbnb, including some Superhosts. One of the most popular places for AirBnb’s in Kuala Lumpur, and for many good reasons:

The Infinity Pool:
This pool is kind of insta-famous, at least that’s how I first saw a picture of it. Located on the 37th floor of the apartment building, this infinity pool has a beautiful view of the city skyline, including the famous Petronas Twin Towers. It’s a beautiful sight to see both day and night.
The pool is open until 10:00pm, and once the sun goes down, party goers come dressed up in their evenings best to take selfies with the amazing view of the Kuala Lumpur Skyline light up with colorful lights.
We got a little unlucky on our trip, over the 4 days we had booked there, they just so happened to be doing maintenance on the pool. Pretty big bummer as I had imagined myself spending hours around the pool.
The security guy did let us enjoy the view from the pool for a few minutes during the day, and snap a few pictures.
We got lucky on our last night in Kuala Lumpur, they opened the pool that evening, and we got to enjoy a swim and admire the view.
The infinity pool does get pretty busy with people wanting to take in the view, so they also have another pool down on level 5, which is also beautiful.
The Rooms:
There are listing for rooms as low as $19USD per night!
Many of the Airbnb listing’s for this buildings are different owners, and have different accommodation options at different budgets. Some offer a private room in an apartment, some a private bachelor apartment, and 2 bedroom apartments!
We opted for a private bachelor apartment, and paid only $30 per night, using my trick to getting the best price on Airbnb. We had a kitchenette, air conditioning, WiFi, private bathroom, and TV with Netflix.
The building also has a bunch of amenities:
-Gym
-Business Center/Library
-Restaurant with reasonably price food, and option to have it delivered to the room
-Restaurant with a city view located on the 36th floor, fancier
-Convenience store to get snacks and drinks
Location:
The Regalia is located just a few minutes walk to the PWTC LRT Station, the KTM Putra Station, and the bus station. It is also located next to the Sunway Putra Shopping Mall. We could see the mall from our apartment.
The mall has pretty much everything you may need, including a grocery store! Since we had a kitchen and a fridge, we purchased groceries for breakfast and snacks. There are also plenty of restaurants inside the mall for an easy meal.
Transport
It is also an easy location to find for Ubers/Taxis/Grabs, and only a short drive away to many the main attractions.
I would highly recommend downloading the apps for Uber and Grab, and creating an account.
Grab Car is like Ubers Asian cousin, and have actually merged together in Asia. I found both apps worked in Kuala Lumpur, so I checked both apps, and usually one was a little cheaper then the other.
We took a taxi once in the city, and it was 3 times more than we paid for any ride with Uber or Grab. Booking through the apps guarantee you don’t get ripped off, as it gives you the price of the ride before you even book a driver!
You don’t get ripped off, and it takes the hassle out of getting a ride and bargaining. We also had some great conversations with our drivers, who gave us great recommendations of things to see and places to eat around the city.

Getting there from the airport
On arrival into Kuala Lumpur, KLIA Ekspres into city center. The train takes about 30 minutes from From KLIA Airport Station KL Sentral.
The cost for the KLIA Ekspress is 55ringgit, which is about $14USD.
Tip:Â If you download the KLIA Ekspress app, you can get the ticket slightly cheaper at 49.60ringgit!
From there, you can take either the LRT train or KTM train. For LRT, stop at PWTC station. For KTM, stop at Putra station. I would recommend the KTM train as it is nearer walking distance.
You’ll need to pay an additional ticket for the second train, and it’s typically between 1-3ringgit.
We also saw posters advertising discounted Grab Car fares from KL Sentral station when you purchased a KLIA Ekspres ticket, so there is a another reason to sign up for Grab Car!
Travel tip:
If you are travelling in 2 or more, it works out cheaper to take Uber or Grab Car. For 2 people to take the Klia Ekspress, 110ringgit. Uber came to 80ringgit to get from the airport to The Regalia Suites, and GrabCar came to 73ringgit when we were leaving.
You can pick up a sim card at the airport upon arrival, or I’ve been able to order Ubers without a local sim card using Wi-Fi.
I got a sim card from Petra Mall. I went with Umobile and the total cost for a sim card and 2.5gb of data was $36ringitt, which comes to $8.50USD.
